The best result I’ve had writing something!
I had some great news the other day and I couldn’t be happier.
Kathy Dobson (http://kathydobson.com) recently ran a competition where she was looking for suggestions for a tagline for her soon to be redesigned blog.
I came up with a couple of attempts I felt summed her, and what she is attempting to accomplish, up.
As you can probably tell from the title of the post, I won! I am chuffed to bits with the result.
The prize was a licensed copy of Camtasia and Snagit (which I used for the above shot), a $348 value which works out to $43.50 per word!
Ok, maybe I’m going a bit far now but I am very happy.
I hope Kathy will use my idea, it will be great to see it every time I visit her blog.
Now, a great thing to notice is what happened when Kathy started the competition. She was trying to think of a new tagline and was having trouble coming up with something. So she asked her blog readers to help.
She came up with the idea of a competition to generate ideas, which is in itself, a great idea.
It generated a great deal of buzz around her site, got her a lot of comments and no doubt get her a lot of new readers.
On top of that, she didn’t need any specialised software to run the competition. She just used a random number generator for the random prize and picked her favourite tagline for the other.
Kathy has also said that the competition will become a regular thing. If she is giving away such great prizes each time it is bound to create more traffic, comments and buzz in the community.
So why not think of a competition of your own? All you need is a good prize and an idea of what you want to achieve with the competition. You may not be able to get as good a prize as Kathy’s, or you might have a better one, but don’t let that stop you. People will enjoy the competition anyway and the winners will be incredibly happy, trust me
I’m off to think of competition ideas now. Let me know if you have any coming up.
All the best,
David

Hi David
Thought I would pop over and congratulate you on winning Kathy’s competition … well done mate!
I can see from the image above that you are already making use of one of the prizes!
It was a great competition, and as you say it generated a great buzz on her site, no doubt made her a lot of new friends as well.
I better get my thinking cap on and come up with a competition now myself!
Once again Congratulations David
Take care, catch up soon

Thanks Ian,
It took me a wee while to figure out how to add the pics to my server but I got it sorted with a little help from my friend Dave Offen.
Might do a video to show how
Let me know when you come up with a competition.
All the best,
David

Hi Dawn,
I would love to do more tutorials, my first will be on how to upload screenshots to your server. Took a while to figure out how, with a little help.
I have no idea what I’ll come up with for mine; I certainly don’t have as cool a prize as Kathy’s. Thinking cap firmly on.
I look forward to your catch up.
Best wishes,
David

Hey Hey!!
Well done mate. It is great when you win a competition. I won a free transcription with Dawn. And she came up trumps as one of the interviewees was a nightmare for her.
Camtasia and Snagit are some top notch prizes and I expect some good use of them on your blog very soon.
Well Done!

Hiya Craig,
Yes it’s fantastic. This is the first I’ve won and the prize was fantastic, as was yours. My wife just transcribed my interview with John Thornhill and it nearly drove her mad!
I have some videos planned so look out for them soon.
All the best,
David

Hi David…
First my apologies for not getting here sooner…I’ve been down that last two days with a very bad summer cold…
I never get sick so this really threw me for a loop…(a present from my granddaughter…)
At any rate…I love that you are making use of your new tools. I use Snag It daily and Camtasia goes without saying if you truly want to be successful with marketing online.
It could not have happened to a nicer more deserving person David. I truly loved your entries and don’t be surprised if you see your words in lights soon
Good luck with your own competition…I’ll be back to participate for sure!

Hi Kathy,
First of all, thank you for the lovely comments. I don’t blush very often. I will be using both tools a lot as I have some great ideas for videos and other products.
Thanks again Kathy, talk soon I hope.
All the best,
David

Hi David, congratulations on your win mate.
It really is a fantastic prize. Two bits of kit that I’ve just purchased (seeing as how i didn’t win
).
Have you started using Camtasia yet? I just created my first video using it, although i have created videos before i used the free stuff, which simply doesn’t compare to Camtasia.
Competitions are an excellent idea david, it’s just sorting out what prize to offer
Catch up again soon David, I hope to watch one of your videos now

Hi Barry,
Thanks for the congrats, which I also pass to you for winning Sally’s training. I have started using Camtasia and will be putting the results out soon.
I would love to put up a competition but I can’t think of a prize either. Come to think of it, I can’t think of a competition either.
See you at your blog soon.
All the best,
David

Hey David,
Congratulations on winning! Kathy was super-generous in offering those prizes & it’s great that you’ve won them.
Does this mean that we’ll be seeing a lot more of you soon?
Even I am going to end up on video shortly as I know Sally will be making me do it as part of her Learn With Sally course, so unfortunately I’ll be spreading the purple madness far & wide! I’ll let you know once I’ve created something that’s at least partially suitable for others to see…
Speak soon,
Nikki
