An update, an apology and a dilema
Hi folks, in today’s update I have a few things to cover, so please bear with me.
Recently my mind has been COMPLETELY blown by the amount I have had to do.
I’ve had preparations for my baby’s arrival, which should be any day now; work on my WSO which I will re-release today or tomorrow, depending on how my connection behaves; trying to think of a video for Barry Wells’ challenge, which is where the apology comes in. I am waaaaay too late for the challenge. I just had a total mind fog and I couldn’t think of anything to do a video about.
Then it hit me as I was deleting yet more virus laden spam from my email. I could do a review of my new favourite tool, as Barry himself suggested to me.
I am using a program called ‘MailWasher Pro’ which is a great weapon in the war against spam and viruses. I got 48 identical virus emails today but I was able to check and delete them before they got to my computer. Take a look:
(Click the image for a better view)
Anyway, Even with my antivirus software installed, I still get viruses in emails which sit on my hard drive until Norton does a background check. I don’t want them on my PC at all.
MailWasher allows me to:
- Check emails in plain text
- Preview suspicious mails securely
- Delete unwanted emails without them ever touching my computer
- Reply to emails without opening the main Windows Mail program
- Blacklist people or add them as friends as required.
And since MailWasher works from your server, you are deleting emails at the source; no attachments are downloaded.
Here is my video then. Sorry it’s late Barry!
I have decided, following on from my earlier post about Kathy Dobson, to run a competition soon, the 2 top prizes being a year’s licence to MailWasher. I just need to think of a good competition. Any ideas?
On another great note, I won another competition over at Welly Mulia‘s site. He was looking for people to say why they deserved a free copy of his new Premium List Magnet and what they’d use it for. There were about 150 entries and I wanted to stick out, so here’s what I wrote.
“Hi Welly, it seems that you have again taken the best of everything and put it in one place, like you did with Profits Theme.
I know I deserve this because one winter’s night, many many years ago, I was awoken by a strange, glowing figure in chains. “I am the ghost of Internet future” he said. “One day”, he continued, “a man will contact you. He will tell you that he has developed a wonderful tool which will lead to the explosion of your business. Your list will increase many fold and you will then teach others to do likewise.”
“What’s a list?” I asked.
“Shut up” said the ghost, “This is my story. You’ll find out what a list is soon enough. And when you do, all your worries will be over.”
Then, suddenly we were transported to a small room in a cottage in Scotland. A handsome 30 something man was sitting at a computer that looked like something out of a Star Trek episode. (I know now it was a lap top but back then I had no idea). “I recognise that handsome man” I said. “Is he a film star?”
“No” said the ghost, “that is you on or around the end of August 2011. It is the turning point of your life.”
I looked closer and could see the handsome, older, wiser me creating what looked like a ‘campaign’. It was over in a couple of minutes and the older, wiser me looked very pleased with himself.
“What happens now?” I asked the ghost.
“I cannot tell you” he replied “but look out for the sign, it will come when you least expect it”.
Suddenly he was gone and my room was silent once more.
I have waited for the sign for many years and now, here it is. How freaky is that?
As to what I will do with it, the options are many. Obviously I will build a huge list and provide exceptional value to everyone on it. I will tell them all about Welly Mulia and the day his email was predicted by a ghost one quiet winter’s night, so long ago.
The end….Or is it..”
So that wee story won me a free copy of PLM. I was very chuffed. Welly’s competition got a lot of comments on his blog and made people aware of his new product. So I need to think of something that will be fun for entrants and for me.
Hmmmm… Thinking cap on.
Anyway, that’ll do for now. As always, leave your comments below and I’ll talk to you again soon.
All the best,

Hi david, no need for apologies my friend, I know how it can be sometimes. Especially when your waiting for a new arrival to your family. I hope that the wait is soon over mate
Good video David, I never would have thought it was your first. We do all suffer from spam and need something to block them and the crap they contain.
That’s a good offer you’re putting together, now to think of the competition. What i would do is: Think of something you need to learn or use and base the competition around it. that way the entries will be teaching you and you can pick the best teachers/lessons.
Just an idea mate…..
I see that you’re also on a roll with your winnings, well done. Great story and imagination.
I’ll add your video to the video challenge list. There’re some fantastic lessons there David, pop over I know many are going to help me.
Also check out my latest video with the top ten traffic sources for the period of the challenge, I pulled out the stops on this one
Catch up soon David, best of luck to you and your wife for the birth of your new family member.
Take care, Barry

Thanks Barry, I appreciate the good wishes.
I’m thinking of just making the competition prize for the best comment, funny story or joke. For 2 reasons:
1. I love a laugh
2. I can’t think of anything else.
But the prizes are ready and I don’t want to hang about.
I’ll give myself overnight to think, then I’m doing it.
All the best,
David

How Do Mate!
You Jammy Git! I knew you would have won that comp. When I saw your entry I thought it was going to be a waste of time to enter. How right I was!
That is a cool piece of software. Spam and viruses are a real threat that can just completely screw you over so thanks for the video on this piece of kit.
I have never heard of this type of software
About the competition????? Don’t tell anyone about it and I will enter!!! Heee Heee
Hope you and the wife are ready for your new bundle of joy to enter into the world very very soon!

Hiya Craig.
Jammy?? That suggests luck of some kind. Well, ok I’ll give you that.
I had never heard of the software either but I went looking after getting some viruses in emails. Although my antivirus detected them, they had already entered my hard drive. They hadn’t opened because I deleted them but they still made it to my PC. I don’t like that.
I am still thinking about what to do in a competition. I won’t tell anyone else, honest.
Talk soon,
David
PS. Any day now for the baby. Getting as much rest as I can.

Hello David,
Your story is so funny, I nearly forgot to watch the video. LoL Class!
That is some good software though. I have had some corker multiple spams – they come it burst, and the lastest ‘penis enlargements’ – something for everyone!
Anyway, I arrived at your blog as you are one of the challengers, so got your link from Barry’s list.
I think I need to go, I’m still laughing at your story, and ‘Jammy Git’
– it’s been awhile since I’ve heard that one.
Thank you David for a very entertaining post and sharing some great software.
Wishing you all the best and all goes well for the Mother to be and baby.
Take Care

Hi Julie,
Thanks very much for the compliments. It’s the multiple spam messages that annoy me most. All of them have a slightly different from address so you can’t block them easily.
This way I can delete them before they get to my computer. Great, eh?
All the best,
David

Hey David. How do you get so much spam and virus emails? Is that because of your website? The regular spam filter works fine for me. Though sometimes I receive a suspicious mail from a friend, which might have a virus, at times like that this software would be good.

Hi Allen,
I’m not sure why I get so many. It seems that every now and again, some spammer gets a hold of it and sends me about 20 identical emails, sometimes with a virus, sometimes not.
Norton usually catches the virus in a scan, but it is on my hard drive at that point. I just want to stop them at the server level so they don’t get to my PC.
Thanks for stopping by,
David

Hi Allen,
I have no idea how I get so much. My spam filters do a good job but sometimes bad ones get through. I’ve had a few where a virus was found in the attachment. Luckily I’m smart enough not to open attachments from emails unless I asked for them.
That’s why I love Mailwasher though.
All the best,
David

Hey David
Great story – had me laughing and made me think, what if we all had dreams that told us about the future – wouldn’t it be great? Anyway best wishes to you, you wife and your new family member – exciting times ahead!!!

Cheers Nigel, I had a lot of fun writing it.
That would be cool if it were true, wouldn’t it?
